At The Lyric, we believe that combining live performance with arts education can have a lasting impact on young people. Our in-school and after-school programs in theatre, music, and creative writing center on student voice, creativity, and storytelling. This winter, we’re excited to offer two masterclasses that introduce our program and actively engage students.

Intro to Devised Theater:

Devised theatre is a process in which a group develops scenes and skills together, rather than memorize and perform a script. Through improvisation, students will learn how to work together as an ensemble. Through original scene writing, students will be able to reflect their values, ideas, and interests in performance. Through character exploration exercises, students will learn to empathize with other experiences.  Using their bodies, voices, and imaginations to communicate intention and information, students will leave the class with a better understanding of how to use their skills as an actor, as well as a better understanding of themselves.
